bucky didnt threaten the world nor did he try to destroy it. it was the winter soldier. you think that james, sweet james bucky buchanan barnes would do that? the guy who would fight for his country, put his life on the line? of course not

the russians (or in the movie’s case, hydra) didnt give a shit about bucky. all they saw was a potential weapon. they only kept him because he was brainwashed successfully to do their bidding, to kneel down and kiss their fucking feet like he was a slave. he was programmed to kill. he was programmed to destroy anything that stood in his way - that is the winter soldier

when bucky got his memories back, the first thing he wanted to do was die

and i dont think a villain, a good villain, would have that much guilt, to feel so fucking horrible and horrified of himself that he just wanted to die 

and guess what happened when bucky finally got control of his life? he helped the avengers, he helped shield. he even became captain america so dont you fucking tell me bucky is a villain because hes far from it
